Your Neighbourhood
We want our tenants and residents to feel valued, supported and proud of where they live. Residents consistently tell us how much they value clean streets, safe public spaces and quick responses to reported issues, and we’ve redesigned how we manage our neighbourhoods around those priorities.
In March 2026, we introduced the ‘Your Neighbourhood’ Team. This new approach brings together staff from across the council, tackling issues like fly‑tipping and overgrowth, and spotting damaged pavements, housing concerns or community safety issues so they can be dealt with quickly.
It’s about being visible in our communities, listening to residents and making it easier for the right teams to respond.
Did you know? Council tenants are entitled to two free bulky waste collections per year for things like old furniture, mattresses, bikes, trampolines, large electricals, multiple bags of household rubbish and garden waste. Our tenant panel members highlighted that this wasn’t widely known, so we’ve done more to promote it this year. Call 0345 2000 103 to book a collection.
In August 2025, our Neighbourhood Housing Team held a community clean-up in Cullercoats. We had a great turn out and were really grateful to the members of our community who volunteered their time to help us make the borough cleaner, greener and tidier.
