Supporting safer neighbourhoods
Our dedicated Community Protection Team plays a vital role in tackling housing-related anti‑social behaviour (ASB) and environmental crime.
Every report is taken seriously and assessed individually, considering each resident’s personal circumstances. This ensures that any action taken is appropriate, proportionate and fair, in line with our Tenancy Agreement and Environmental Crime and Anti-social Behaviour Policy.
Our officers take a victim‑focused approach, working closely with residents to understand the impact of ASB and identify the most effective solutions. Wherever possible, we prioritise early intervention and preventative measures to resolve issues before they escalate.
The team works with partners including Northumbria Police, schools, community groups and external organisations to co-ordinate activity and respond more effectively to local concerns.
- Project Shield addresses ASB and violence in hotspot areas. Delivered alongside Northumbria Police, it focused on increased visible patrols to deter offending and build confidence among residents and businesses.
- Northumbria Police and the Community Protection Team opened a shared base at North Shields Transport Hub. This allows for quicker responses to incidents, supports safer journeys for passengers, and provides a convenient drop‑in point for residents to speak to officers.
- Our youth‑focused officer works with young people to raise awareness of the consequences of ASB, while also listening to their views and working with schools and partners to identify positive activities and opportunities within their neighbourhoods.
- A dedicated officer supports the Your Neighbourhood Team (see page 18), helping to address local issues.
Our Estates and Communities tenant panel (page 21) takes a keen interest in work to tackle ASB. This year, they have worked with us to improve the letters we send to ASB victims and perpetrators, and provided feedback on the Environmental Crime and Anti-social Behaviour Policy.
Report anti‑social behaviour
