Welcome

Welcome to our 2025-26 annual report – our review of the past year and a look ahead to what’s coming next.

Having listened to what you told us about the importance of clean and safe neighbourhoods, we have put a major focus on that this year.  You might have taken part in consultation on our new Neighbourhood and Community Promise, or have seen the new ‘Your Neighbourhod’ team out and about responding to issues and cleaning up hotspot areas.

This year, the North Tyneside Council website had a major facelift, making it easier to find information and to report issues. We publish regular updates on how we are performing, which are available for anyone to read, along with our annual self-assessment of how we are meeting the national Regulator of Social Housing’s Consumer Standards.

We are pleased to see that our Tenant Satisfaction scores continue to improve, and I am proud of the hard work that our housing teams have put in to provide quality homes and good services to tenants. I am committed that we continue to build on this, using our self-assessment, data from complaints and insights from tenant feedback to identify actions for the coming year.

Our tenant panel volunteers continue to hold us to account, asking questions and putting forward their own ideas on how we can improve services for all our tenants.  You don’t have to be a member of a formal group to have your say – 992 tenants returned our Tenant Satisfaction Measures survey in the autumn and 532 responses were received on consultations ranging from new kitchen choices to a policy on providing home adaptations to support tenants to live independently.  Thank you to everyone who shared their views in one way or another.

I guarantee that we will continue to listen to our tenants and invest in services that reflect your priorities. With that in mind, I will end with a quote from Linda, a tenant panel member from Shiremoor, who has summed up how she has felt about our work with our tenants this year:

"I am enjoying being a part of North Tyneside Council’s journey to improve its housing services… We have put forward various recommendations which have been acted on and led to changes being made. I believe that the council has recognised the significant positive contributions that we, the tenants (or customers), can bring to the table. I am proud of what we have achieved so far and look forward to continuing our work together."

I hope you enjoy reading this report.
