Introduction
Housing and Property Services is committed to ensuring that our tenants and leaseholders live in homes that are safe, secure, high quality, warm, dry, healthy and energy efficient.
As a social housing landlord, we have a responsibility to maintain our stock, including internal communal areas and ensure that we are, and remain, compliant with statutory and regulatory requirements. This includes:
- Asbestos management
- Water hygiene
- Electrical safety
- Gas safety
- Fire safety
- Lift safety
The Housing and Property Services compliance policy is supported by a suite of associated policies, procedures and guidance documents. Together, the Policy and these arrangements constitute the Council’s required organisation and arrangements for managing housing compliance.
The Policy sets direction, roles and accountability; the procedures set out how we assess and control risks, train and consult, monitor performance, investigate incidents and drive continual improvement.
We implement these arrangements in a way that reflects Our North Tyneside Plan and our values—We Listen, We Care, We Are Ambitious and We Are Good Value for Money, and our duties as a social housing provider by engaging tenants, colleagues and unions, investing in competence, learning from events and targeting resources where they deliver the greatest benefit for residents, tenants and communities.
We proactively promote tenant engagement through our North Tyneside Council Voice, which is an easy and secure way for tenants and residents to engage with North Tyneside Council, to share ideas and influence decision making.
