Driver licence renewals
To renew your licence, complete the renewal form fully, ensuring all questions are answered and that it is signed and dated. Scan or photograph the form along with any required documents such as your DVLA driving licence, medical if required, and the DVLA Share Code, then email everything to taxi.licensing@northtyneside.gov.uk.
Where a DBS check is required, original documents must be examined by officers so please make an appointment to visit the licensing office to do this.
If you cannot provide any required documents, highlight this in your application or email. Make sure to include a contact phone number so the Licensing Team can call you to take payment by debit or credit card.
You must apply to renew your licence before it expires and your renewal will only be considered valid when the licence fee has been paid. Currently payments can only be made between the hours of 9.30 and 16.00. If you do not apply in time or do not pay the licence fee your licence will expire, you will have to submit a new application and pay a higher fee. In this case you will not be able to drive until a new licence has been issued.
If you can't get a medical appointment with your GP, email the Licensing Office immediately for advice. You can still submit your renewal application without the medical form.
Once your application is complete and all records are updated, your new licence will be emailed to you, and your I.D. badges will be sent by post. If your application is incomplete but you have paid the licence fee, you will receive an authorisation letter allowing you to continue driving. If you are unable to submit your application for any reason, contact the Licensing Office for assistance.
