Climate adaptation
North Tyneside’s climate is changing. The hottest and the wettest years since records began have occurred within the last 10 years. With global temperatures set to increase, we will continue to see wetter winters, hotter and drier summers, and more frequent extreme weather events.
We must adapt and build resilience to these current and future impacts, so we can continue to deliver essential services. Our work on Climate Adaptation involves making purposeful and planned changes to lessen vulnerability and boost resilience to shifting conditions.
The North Tyneside Climate Adaptation Strategy and Action Plan has been developed with DEFRA’s Local Authority Reporting Pilot in mind and produced in collaboration with local businesses, residents, third sector organisations.
The Action Plan outlines a route map to ensure the Borough of North Tyneside is sufficiently adapting and becoming more resilient to the impacts of a changing climate.
The Action Plan is made up of 6 themes:
- Policy, Planning and Governance
- Community Resilience and Public Health
- Buildings, Assets and Infrastructure
- Utilities- Energy, Gas, Water and Telecoms
- Transport and Highways
- Nature Based Solutions
