A Just and Fair Transition

The transition towards a low carbon future requires equal opportunity and support where needed for our businesses and residents across the borough. Transitioning towards a greener economy is something that requires a coordinated and joint approach to ensure no one is left behind. This will be challenging in the context of a changing climate, specifically in the areas of economic development where new technologies and the associated skills  are replacing the tried/tested and traditional practices. Additionally, climate change impacts and adaptation actions will have unequal effects. For many climate impacts, it is the most vulnerable within our communities that will be most affected and are least able to adjust. As an Authority we will continue to work with others to ensure our businesses and residents are protected from risks and not excluded from opportunities.

In terms of ensuring equal access to a low carbon future jobs market, there is a requirement on the Authority to ensure we are supporting both the existing workforce and those who are starting out in employment. We will continue to work with partners to ensure opportunities, either directly or indirectly such as  supporting supply chains into greener products or services. We will also support the provision of new learning opportunities and training for the up-and-coming generation who will witness the change a low carbon economy will bring.
