Food provision, nutritional education and promotion of healthy living
Food is a core component of the HAF Programme, with the expectation that all provisions provide least one nutritious meal during each activity day. It is a requirement that the food offer meets School Food Standards. In cases where on-site catering is not practical, £5 food vouchers are provided
Providers actively encouraged children to try new foods, supporting positive experiences around healthy eating.
In addition to main meals, many providers also offered breakfast options and ensured that fresh fruit was available throughout the day, further supporting children’s nutritional needs.
We had 2 providers running cookery camps, 1 aimed at primary aged children (High Kicks) and 1, secondary (Whitley Bay Food & Nutrition)
My daughter has absolutely flourished attending this club the staff are amazing and the experience she has gained can’t be matched (High Kicks/Kids Kitchen)
My children both really struggle attending social settings and holiday clubs, but they tried one day and both came out asking to go again the day after, this is the first time this has happened. They really enjoyed coming here so thank you! (High Kicks/Kids Kitchen)
As a parent of a child, I can’t thank the cooking group enough for the difference it has made to him. At just 14, he has grown in confidence, learned valuable life skills, and discovered a real passion for cooking. Each week, he comes home excited to show us what he had learned. This place is one of a few my child will attend where her needs can also be met. The staff are amazing with her while also teaching life skills in cooking. She refuses to engage with education at school but is able to fully engage here. (Whitley Bay Food & Nutrition)
