Report an empty home
Properties can become empty for many reasons. Owners may struggle to sell or let their property, face financial difficulties, or be unable to complete renovation work to a suitable standard.
North Tyneside Council is committed to helping owners bring long‑term empty homes back into use. Doing so reduces the negative impact empty properties can have on neighbourhoods and helps increase the supply of affordable housing across the borough.
How We Can Help
If you own an empty property in North Tyneside, we can offer:
- Advice and support to help you bring the property back into use
- Refurbishment options through the Empty Homes Leasing Scheme
- Introductions to voluntary‑sector leasing schemes
- Access to the Deposit Guarantee Scheme
- Support with correspondence to claim VAT reductions
- In some cases, consideration of purchasing your empty property
If your property is empty but already meets the Decent Homes Standard, we may be able to lease it from you. This allows us to manage the property on your behalf and provide you with guaranteed rental income
