North Tyneside Council gives notice that it intends not less than seven days from the date of this Notice to make an Order under Section 16(A) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
The effect of the Order will be:

To prohibit vehicles including pedal cycles from using: the full length of Tynemouth Front Street from its junction with Percy Park Road/Allendale Place to its junction with Pier Road and; Hotspur Street from its junction with Front Street to its junction with Stephenson Street/Middle Street commencing on Friday 10 July 2026 from 06.00hrs until Monday 13 July 2026 at 17.00hrs.
The alternative route will be East Street, Sea Banks, Percy Gardens, Grand Parade, Percy Park Road (using the main carriageway) and vice versa (using the cycle lane).
- To introduce a rolling road closure along Percy Park Road, Tynemouth Road and the full length of Front Street on Saturday 11 July 2026 from 11:00 until 13:00 for a Children’s Pageant, with no alternative route.
- To prohibit vehicles including pedal cycles from using the cycle lane on Percy Gardens/Sea Banks/East Street from the junction of Middle Street/East Street to the junction of Grand Parade/Percy Gardens commencing on Friday 10 July 2026 from 06.00hrs until Monday 13 July 2026 at 17.00hrs.
Nothing in this Order shall apply to:
- any vehicles being used for ambulance, fire and rescue authority, police and coast guard purposes in an emergency;
- anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform or a traffic enforcement officer; and
- vehicles when used in the service of a local authority in pursuance of statutory powers or duties.
- vehicles including pedal cycles travelling in a southerly direction using the cycle lane between the junction of Grand Parade/Percy Gardens and the junction of Middle Street/East Street;
The Order is necessary to facilitate and reduce disruption likely to be caused by the Mouth of the Tyne Festival.
