Charnwood proposed gate

Proposed Installation of a self-closing gate on a Public Footpath in the Whitley Bay area – Consultation and views:

Following receipt of complaints regarding some people on push bikes utilising a narrow public footpath in a dangerous manner we have decided to install a self-closing gate at a mid-point of the path under Section 115b of the Highways Act 1980 - this is to enhance the amenity of the highway and thereby deter use by people on push bikes.

The footpath runs from Astley Drive to Blyth Road, Whitley Bay – the gate will be installed at the earliest opportunity, and we will monitor post installation for a 6-month period.

View the path and position of the gate.

The gate is compliant with BS 5709:2018 and can be viewed at Charnwood Pedestrian Gate
