BENTON LANE (B1505 and A188) (BUS LANES) (CONSOLIDATION) ORDER 2025 BENTON, LONGBENTON, WALLSEND & WEST ALLOTMENT (SPEED LIMITS) (CONSOLIDATION) ORDER 2025 VARIATION ORDERS 2026

THE COUNCIL OF THE BOROUGH OF NORTH TYNESIDE

North Tyneside Council gives notice that it proposes to make variation orders under Sections 1, 2, 4, 19, 82, 83 and 84 and Part IV of Schedule 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and all other enabling powers. The effect of the orders, if made, will be to vary: 

A: the Council of the Borough of North Tyneside (Bus Lanes) (Consolidation) Order 2025, so that 

  1. a Bus Lane, operational on all days and at all times, be introduced on

    i. Southern side of B1505 westbound carriageway and eastern side of A188 southbound carriageway (incorporating the south eastern side of West Moor roundabout) from a point 70 metres east of the A189/A188 West Moor Roundabout in a westerly then southerly direction to a point 280 metres south of that junction.

B: the Council of the Borough of North Tyneside (Speed Limits) (Consolidation) Order 2025, so that 

  1. 20mph speed limit zones be introduced on the following roads:

    i. Bayfield, West Allotment in its entirety. 

    ii. Cloverfield Area, West Allotment, on Cloverfield and Brookfield in their entirety.

    iii. Derwent Way Area, Wallsend, on Derwent Way, Coquet Gardens and Alwin Close in their entirety.

  2. an existing 30mph speed limit be revoked on the following road:

    i. Whitley Road (A191), Benton extending from a point 35 metres east of its junction with Station Road, Benton to a point 865 metres in an easterly direction from its junctions with Station Road, Benton.

  3. a 40mph speed limit be introduced on the following roads:

    i. Benton Lane (A188), Longbenton from its roundabout junction with the A189 in a southerly direction to a point 80 metres north of its roundabout junction with Balliol/Quorum Business Parks, Longbenton.

    ii. Benton Lane (B1505) from its roundabout junction with the A188/A189 to a point metres 35 metres east of that junction.

  4. The following 40mph speed limits be amended so that they apply to the following extents:

    i. A189, Longbenton from a point 10 metres north of its junction with Salters Bridge to a point 130 metres north of its junction with the A188/B1505 including West Moor roundabout. 

    ii. Whitley Road (A191), Benton from a point 220 metres south west of its junction with Bellway Industrial Estate access road, in an easterly direction to a point 150 metres south west of its junction with Chollerton Drive (including the roundabout with Station Road - A186)

  5. The following 50mph speed limit be amended so that it applies to the following extent: 

    i. A189 from a point 80 metres south of its roundabout junction with the A1056 Killingworth Lane/Sandy Lane to a point 130 metres north of its roundabout junction with the A188 Benton Lane.

  6. An existing 50mph speed limit be revoked on the following roads:

    i. Benton Lane (A188), Longbenton from its roundabout junction with A189 in a southerly direction to Balliol Business Park Roundabout.

    ii. Benton Lane (A188), Longbenton which extends from its roundabout junction with the A189 in a southerly direction to a point 80 metres north of its roundabout junction with Balliol Business Park, Longbenton.

    iii. Salters Lane (A189) from its junction with the A1056 roundabout in a southerly direction until a point 135 metres south-west of its junction with Gosforth Park Way Roundabout.
