Our sport and leisure trainer assessors deliver RLSS endorsed courses across North Tyneside.
Training is CIMSPA endorsed and most carry UCAS points. All courses combine practical and theory work and candidates will receive a level 3 qualification on completion. We can offer both face-to-face and blended learning options. First aid courses are suitable for all industries and enables employers to meet HSE and HSENI requirements. Course prices start from only £60 per candidate.

Emergency First Aid at Work
The one-day course covers a range of CPR and first aid skills to ensure a safe working environment.
First Aid at Work
A three day course (two day blended learning) is the most comprehensive first aid course for the workplace. It covers CPR and comprehensive first aid skills, equipping first aiders with the knowledge to apply first aid to specific injuries and illness' within the workplace and beyond.
Paediatric First Aid
First aid courses covering a range of CPR and emergency first aid skills specifically for children and infants. Paediatric courses are for anyone over 16 who has contact or works with children and babies. We offer both emergency and full (two day/blended learning) paediatric level 3 qualifications.
Outdoor First Aid
First aid courses that cover CPR and first aid skills for those who work or operate in an outdoor environment. Suitable for individuals and groups that undertake activities and/or may encounter hazards outside. We offer both emergency and full (two day) outdoor qualifications.
Become a lifeguard
National pool lifeguard qualification
The NPLQ covers all elements of pool rescue techniques, lifeguarding theory, first aid and CPR. The course is physically demanding, requiring a level of swimming ability. Assessment is based around three subject areas and candidates must pass all to become qualified.
This is an excellent starting point for a career in sport and leisure. We offer the opportunity to apply for casual lifeguard vacancies directly from our courses, most of our sport and leisure management team started out as lifeguards!
The NPLQ is delivered via a 36 hour week intensive course, these are generally within school holiday periods, with an end point assessment on day five. Waves hosts a Lifeguard Club on a Thursday, 7.30-9.30pm, and this pay as you go format allows candidates to gain two hours of training each week, working towards the 36 hours required.

RLSS junior lifesaving sessions
Waves offers a range of sessions on a Thursday evening providing a pathway for juniors to work towards achieving their full NPLQ award.
Rookie lifeguards – Candidates learn basic rescue and life saving skills, equipping them with knowledge to stay safe in, on or around water. For children aged 8-12 years who are able to swim 25 metres front and back stroke. Badges and certificates are achieved for each level working through to Rookies Master status!
National junior lifeguard academy – An exit route from rookie lifeguards or for competent swimmers aged 12+. These progressive awards teach safety around water and basic rescue techniques to keep others safe in an around water. Also covers basic First Aid/CPR scenarios. Candidates work through a structured pathway towards achieving NLA distinction status. Badges and certificates are achieved at each level.
