Warm, welcoming spaces will once again open their doors across North Tyneside this winter, with applications now open for community organisations and schools wanting to take part in the 2026/27 Warm Welcome programme.
The initiative helps residents stay warm, connected and supported during the colder months by offering free, safe and inclusive spaces where people can enjoy hot drinks, take part in activities and access advice and support.
This year, the scheme is being expanded to include schools, enabling them to deliver Warm Welcome sessions and after-school activities that provide additional support for children and families throughout the winter period.
The council is inviting schools, community organisations, voluntary groups and social enterprises across North Tyneside to apply for funding to host Warm Welcome sessions from their buildings. Sessions must be free to attend and offer a welcoming environment where residents can drop in, enjoy a hot drink and take part in activities that encourage social connection and wellbeing.
Activities could include arts and crafts, book clubs, knit and natter groups, walking groups, games or other community-led initiatives that bring people together.

This year, we're especially pleased to extend the scheme to schools, providing more opportunities for children and families to come together outside of the school day."

Warm Welcome spaces will be expected to operate regularly throughout the winter, offering free refreshments and activities in fully accessible venues. The council will work closely with participating organisations to promote sessions across North Tyneside and ensure residents are aware of the support available in their local area.
A full list of Warm Welcome venues and opening times will be published ahead of the programme launching in November.
