Our Portage Service has been awarded Platinum Registration by the National Portage Association, the highest level of recognition available under the organisation's new national registration framework.
Portage is a specialist educational home-visiting service for pre-school children with additional needs, developmental delays and disabilities.
Working alongside parents and carers, Portage Practitioners help families understand their child's development and identify practical ways to support learning through everyday activities, play and family routines.
The award follows a comprehensive self-evaluation and evidence submission process, which this year introduced a new registration model.
The Platinum Registration recognises the quality, consistency and impact of the specialist support provided to babies, young children and their families.
The service focuses on building children's communication, confidence, independence and early learning skills while empowering parents with the knowledge, strategies and reassurance they need to help their child flourish.
For many families, Portage is one of the first services they access following concerns about their child's development and provides vital support during what can be an emotional and often overwhelming period.
Cllr Peter Earley, Cabinet Member for supporting and protecting children at North Tyneside Council, said: "We are absolutely delighted to have achieved Platinum Registration, and it is testament to the dedication, expertise and commitment of the entire team.
“The team is often one of the first services families encounter as they begin to understand their child’s needs and access support. At what can be an emotional and uncertain time, we are passionate about making our families feel confident, informed and supported.
“The impact of Portage can be seen in the confidence it builds. The early interventions and connections matter enormously and can make a real difference to supporting children with additional needs and developmental delays.
“"This recognition is thoroughly deserved and reflects an outstanding service making a real difference to children and families every day."
Our Portage Service works with families across the borough, helping children develop key skills, supporting successful transitions into nursery and school, and ensuring parents and carers have the confidence and tools they need to support their child's learning and development at home.
