Granicus has announced North Tyneside Council’s Engagement Team as the winner of the Customer Engagement category at its annual UK Digital Government Awards. The awards recognise public sector organisations, citizen engagement, operational efficiency and public trust across the UK.
North Tyneside transformed its entire engagement approach by centralising all activity through Our North Tyneside Voice, powered by Granicus Sentiment & Feedback (EngagementHQ), to give residents a single trusted place to participate. Representation grew dramatically — from 153 panel members to 2,506 — with participation now spanning all 20 wards and major increases among young people, minority ethnic communities, and council tenants. This new model ensures every consultation meets accessibility standards and supports more consistent, transparent decision‑making. The council’s inclusive methods have directly shaped major policies, including the forthcoming 2026–2029 Resident Engagement Strategy.
Ashley Bell, Engagement Manager, North Tyneside Council, said:
“This project was vital in transforming how North Tyneside Council engages with residents, creating a single, accessible and transparent approach to consultation across the organisation. By using EngagementHQ, we significantly increased participation, improved representation across our communities, and strengthened trust by clearly demonstrating how resident feedback shapes council decisions.”
This year’s honourees are delivering tangible results, cutting case processing times from weeks to days, expanding resident participation from hundreds to thousands, and saving hundreds of staff weeks through smarter digital services. It is proof that practical, measurable digital transformation is happening at every level of government across the UK. Now in its sixteenth year, the programme draws from thousands of public sector organisations that work with Granicus to deliver better outcomes for citizens and communities.
Ian Roberts, UK Managing Director at Granicus, said:
“Every year we see the ambition, creativity and commitment of public sector teams across the UK. This year’s winners show what is possible when digital is used with purpose. They are improving how citizens engage with services and building more transparent, responsive government. We are proud to recognise their achievements.”
