People living in North Tyneside can now use a new online Cost of Care Calculator to find out whether the council may help with care costs, and to get an early indication of what they might need to pay.
The tool, available on the council’s MyCare website, gives people a quick estimate based on information they enter about their benefits, pensions, essential expenditure, savings and assets. It’s designed to help residents plan ahead, understand potential costs, and make informed decisions about their care and support.
The calculator is part of North Tyneside Council’s commitment to create better lives for all, and to support those who need care and those who care for them.
The calculator takes around 10–15 minutes to complete. Residents enter details about their income and essential bills, and the tool provides an estimate of what they may be asked to contribute towards care arranged by the council.
This estimate is not a full financial assessment, but it helps people understand what to expect before they speak to a social care worker or begin planning a support package.
At the end of the form, residents can choose whether to securely share their information with the council’s Financial Assessment Team. This is optional, and only recommended if they have already discussed their care needs with a social care worker. Any information shared is handled in line with the council’s privacy standards.

This new calculator gives residents a simple, secure way to get an early indication of what they might need to pay, so they can plan ahead with more confidence.
“It’s one way that we are delivering on our commitment to create better lives for all in North Tyneside, and supporting those who need care and those who care for them. By giving people clearer information at an earlier stage, we hope to make the process easier, more transparent and more reassuring.”
People can use the calculator as many times as they wish, save or print their results, and revisit the tool as their circumstances change. The calculator is currently available for non‑residential care, with a version for residential care planned for early 2027.
