More than 350 students take part in the Healthy4Life Festival

Elected Mayor, Karen Clark with year 5 pupils taking part in a hockey session at the Healthy4Life Festival 2026

More than 350 pupils from across North Tyneside came together this week for a day of sport, movement and healthy living at the annual Healthy4Life Festival — a borough‑wide celebration designed to inspire lifelong healthy habits.

Year 5 classes from 10 North Tyneside first and primary schools made their way to The Parks Sports Centre to take part in the Healthy4Life Festival on Wednesday (17 June 2026).

Hosted by Active North Tyneside and the North Tyneside PE, School Sport and Physical Activity (PESSPA) team the festival is designed to promote and encourage participation in a wide range of sport and exercise opportunities.

Throughout the day children moved between 14 different sport, healthy eating and wellbeing sessions delivered by North Tyneside Council and partners including Newcastle United Foundation, Skip4Fit and Better on Bikes.

Elected Mayor, Karen Clark said: “From football and hockey to cycling and rugby it’s great to see so many children getting involved in such a wide range of activities.

“We want all children in North Tyneside to have the best start in life and encouraging regular exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle sets a strong foundation for future habits.”

Pupils were provided with advice and guidance on how they can join local clubs or sessions, with the hope that children will continue with their preferred activities after the event, throughout summer and beyond.

Students from John Spence High School attended as young leaders and college students from Newcastle Rugby Foundation as young volunteers providing an opportunity for young people to gain valuable experience working at a sporting event.

The festival is named after Active North Tyneside’s Healthy4Life programme which aims to help families across the borough make achievable changes to their lifestyles. The programme covers everything from portion size and screen time to food swaps and understanding food labels.
