A consultation has begun on a proposal to relocate the primary phase of Silverdale School from its current site at the Langdale Centre in Wallsend to the former Forest Hall Primary School building on Delaval Road. The consultation opened on Monday 14 September 2026 and will run until midnight on Sunday 25 October 2026.
The proposal follows consideration by Cabinet and reflects the need to secure a more suitable long‑term home for Silverdale’s primary‑aged pupils. The Langdale Centre has served as an interim location since an emergency relocation several years ago, but the building is a former middle school dating from the 1950s and was not designed for specialist primary SEND provision. Despite adaptations, the site presents ongoing challenges, requires significant investment, and does not offer the long‑term certainty families and staff need.
Relocating to the Forest Hall site has the potential to provide more appropriate teaching and learning spaces, dedicated outdoor areas, a more cohesive school environment and greater stability for pupils, families and staff. It would also bring a vacant school building back into educational use.
No decision has yet been made. The purpose of the consultation is to give parents, carers, staff, pupils, residents and other stakeholders the opportunity to review the proposal and share their views before any further steps are considered. Silverdale School will continue to operate as normal throughout the consultation period, with no immediate changes for pupils.
