Residents at Cheviot View, an independent and sheltered living accommodation in West Allotment, North Tyneside, have raised £1,691 for North Tyneside Disability Forum through a year of fundraising activities.
The money was raised through a series of events and activities organised by residents, including quizzes, pool and table tennis, dominoes and other activities.
The cheque was presented to North Tyneside Disability Forum, a local charity based in Shiremoor which supports people with disabilities across North Tyneside.
Susan Proctor, Development Worker at North Tyneside Disability Forum, said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive this fantastic donation from Cheviot View.
"We work with people from a wide range of ages, from young people through to those in their 90s, and music is particularly popular with the young people we support.
“We’re hoping to create a music room where people can go and enjoy karaoke, play instruments and simply have fun together. This generous donation will help us buy equipment and instruments to help bring the room to life.”
Alan Robson, who helps coordinate activities at Cheviot View, has been organising the annual fundraising for the last five years.
Their first fundraising event raised £700 for Macmillan Cancer Support and it has grown into an annual fundraising effort, with residents raising money for a different charity each year.
Alan said: “It started from a little acorn and it’s grown into something much bigger.
“This year we’ve raised £1,691, which is brilliant. But it’s all down to the people who come along and support the charity all year round. They make all the difference.
“We’ve now raised around £15,000 over the last five years, which to me is amazing. It’s all about the people – they’re great.”
Over the five years, residents have raised money for a number of charities and causes, including Macmillan Cancer Support, Cancer Research UK, Dementia UK and Daft as a Brush Cancer Patient Care.
Alan added: "The money we've raised this year is for North Tyneside Disability Forum to improve the music room. It’s really special to see the difference it can make.”
