Residents of Cheviot View, an independent and sheltered living accommodation in West Allotment, North Tyneside, welcomed Elected Mayor Karen Clark for a special visit to celebrate their ongoing fundraising efforts.
The Elected Mayor was warmly welcomed in the lounge area where she joined the residents to hear about the incredible work they do and their community spirit.
Over the years, Cheviot View residents have raised funds for a number of causes including Macmillan Cancer Support and Dementia UK.
This year, their chosen charity was Daft as a Brush, which provides free transport for cancer patients to and from hospital appointments.
Through a variety of social events, including community pool nights, bike rides, raffles, cake sales, coffee mornings and weekly in-house fundraisers, the residents have raised an impressive £1621 for Daft as a Brush.
Their enthusiasm and dedication have made a real impact. One standout story they shared with Elected Mayor Clark was the time they raised enough money for a defibrillator in just one day.
The Elected Mayor praised the residents for their commitment to supporting charities, and increasingly local causes. She said: “There’s a really strong sense of community here and it’s inspiring to see how much can be achieved when people come together. By holding these regular fundraisers and events, you’re making a really big difference.”
Alan Robson, who helps coordinate activities at Cheviot View said the residents were “over the moon” to share their achievements and meet the Elected Mayor. “It means a lot to everyone here and to be recognised for the work they do. We’re proud to continue supporting great causes and making a difference”
Andrea Glover, CEO of Daft as a Brush said: “It has been amazing to see how a community have pulled together to help raise vital funds for Daft as a Brush. We would like to thank Alan for all of his efforts together with the other residents, who have undertaken so many different activities.”
Despite their fundraising efforts being limited during the pandemic, the residents have raised over £12,680 for charities since 2018.
Next, Cheviot View have chosen to raise money for North Tyneside Disability Forum, a local charity that provides vital support, advice and opportunities for people living with disabilities across the Borough. The residents are already planning a calendar of fundraising events to continue their efforts to give back to the community.
