Council teams responding to condensation, mould and damp

North Tyneside Council is proud to be in a strong position in its preparedness to deal with condensation, mould and damp as Awaab’s Law officially comes into effect.

Since Awaab’s Law was given Royal Assent in July 2023, the Council has continued to build on the work it was already doing to ensure that its homes are safe, secure and comfortable for residents.

And now, with the new law introduced on October 27, the Council is more prepared than ever to respond to condensation, mould and damp issues.

The Council introduced a dedicated team to ensure that any reports from residents were dealt with quickly and efficiently. Since the team’s introduction, over 3,800 surveys have been carried out and 100% have been completed within the required timescales.

This has been supported by the introduction of the Council’s innovative video diagnosis system. The system allows call handlers to request access to the camera on the resident’s device – if granted, the resident can use the camera to show the exact issue and provide more context.

It means the Council can respond far quicker to any reports, making sure that the member of staff going out to the property knows what to expect, has the right equipment and can offer the correct support without the need for multiple visits.

All Council staff whose role involves going into tenants’ homes have been given training to spot the signs of condensation, mould and damp and know how to report it when necessary.

If you’re a council tenant and have concerns about condensation, mould and damp, or any other repairs, you can contact the Council’s Repairs Service on 0345 2000 102 or complete the online form.
