Money and finances support

Household Support Fund

The Household Support Fund is a government scheme that provides financial help to vulnerable households to cover essential costs like food, energy, and housing.

We have recieved a £2,837,573.76 grant through the Household Support Fund. This will help households and residents who need it the most up until 31 March 2026.

How we will be using the grant:

  • Those entitled to income related Free School Meals will receive supermarket vouchers to support children in the school holidays.
  • Schools will nominate children for financial support with school uniform and winter clothing
  • Increase crisis support through Local Welfare Provision service.
  • Warm Welcomes across the borough.

Criteria

  • You must be a North Tyneside resident
  • Only one application per household between April 2025 and March 2026
  • Have no savings
  • Experiencing significant hardship, which means the applicant is unable to meet the immediate short terms needs of their household.
  • Previous applications to Household Support Fund will be taken into consideration.

The Tenancy and Financial Support team are able to provide support to council tenants to improve their financial circumstances and sustain their tenancy. The service is completely confidential, and all information requested below will be used to contact the individual and provide the correct level of tailored support.

  • We will aim to contact you within five working days, following a referral, to discuss and assess your needs.
  • Following the initial assessment of needs we will agree with you an appropriate timescale and next steps.
  • We will aim to carry out an appointment within 8 weeks of your initial assessment.
  • We will deliver our services with empathy, compassion and professionalism.
  • If applicable we will signpost you to the most appropriate service to provide you with the correct help & support you need.
