I’m a Data Analyst at Vehicle Data Global Limited (formerly known as UK Vehicle Data Ltd). We are currently looking to enhance our coverage of UK taxi vehicle data—specifically private hire and Hackney carriage registrations—both current and historical, to support consumers in making informed vehicle purchase decisions.
We’ve observed that a number of local councils make this data available in CSV format via the .Gov website under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. From the councils we’ve contacted so far, we’ve been able to obtain datasets typically including the following fields:
- Vehicle Registration Mark (VRM)
- VIN (Vehicle Identification Number)
- Make/Brand
- Model/Range
- Licence Start Date
- Licence End Date
As licensed data distributors for the DVLA, SMMT, Thatcham and others, we already maintain comprehensive records of VRMs and VINs for vehicles registered on UK roads. Our aim is to enrich this data by identifying vehicles that are currently or have previously been licensed as taxis.
We would be grateful if you could confirm whether your council holds and can share this type of data, ideally in a structured format such as CSV.
