We use Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) in areas including:
- in and around the town centres
- in some council buildings
- at North Tyneside’s Household Waste Recycling Centre
- as body worn cameras on officers
- on refuse collection vehicles.
It is used as a valuable tool to assist with public safety, security and to protect property.
We own and maintain the installations and they are operated to the requirements of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and good practice guidelines, such as those issued by the Biometrics and Surveillance Camera Commissioner and Information Commissioner’s Office. This ensures, that the need for public protection is balanced with respect for the privacy of individuals.
