Business Rates changes April 2026

Details of the Business Rates changes from 1 April 2026

Introduction

On 26 November 2025 the Government announced five multipliers to calculate Business Rates which replaces the current two multipliers.

These will come into effect from the 1 April 2026 in conjunction with the new rating list. Business Rates will be calculated using the multiplier that is relevant to the usage of the premises. A business that is classed as Retail, Hospitality or Leisure (RHL) will use a varied multiplier and have a smaller bill to pay.

The following multipliers will be used to calculate bills:

Business Category  Multipliers from 1-APRIL-2026  RV Thresholds
Small business (RHL) multiplier  38.2p  RHL hereditaments with RVs under £51,000
Small business non-domestic rating multiplier  43.2p  Non-RHL hereditaments with RVs under £51,000
Standard RHL multiplier  43.0p  RHL hereditaments with RVs between £51,000 and £499,999
Standard non-domestic rating multiplier  48.0p  Non-RHL hereditaments with RVs between £51,000 and £499,999
High-Value non-domestic rating multiplier  50.8p  All hereditaments with RVs of £500,000 or above
