Changes to Parking in North Tyneside

Further changes as to how parking enforcement operates within North Tyneside come into being as of today Monday 31st March 2008, with Civil Parking Enforcement replacing Decriminalised Parking Enforcement, which has been operating since June 2007.

Under this change, the aim whlst making parking control clearer and more user - friendly, brings into being two levels of Penalty Charge Notices for those who contravene the the parking rules.

A new lower penalty of £50 will be imposed where the contravention is not so serious, such as parking beyond the bay markings or over staying the parking ticket, however, where contraventions are more serious, i.e. parking on double yellow lines or a disabled bay without displaying a blue badge, the charges rises to £70 (both charges reduce by 50% if paid within fourteen days)

New powers in respect to the issue of PCN's to vehicle which leave before the PCN can be issued or handed to the driver.

Decriminalised Parking Enforcement (DPE)

Decriminalised Parking Enforcement (DPE) comes into effect as from 24 June 2007.

From this date the powers to enforce yellow line and parking space offences will be transferred to North Tyneside Council from Northumbria Police, with enforcement  by North Tyneside Council parking attendants.

North Tyneside Council is not contracting out any part of the service and so for the first time there will be a consistent single service for the control of public parking in North Tyneside.
