There is no shortage of heritage in North Tyneside with 2,000 years of history chronicled in the borough's museums. Segedunum Roman Fort, Museum and Baths is part of the Frontiers of the Roman Empire World Heritage Site and the Stephenson Railway Museum reflects on the development of steam locomotion.

The Rising Sun Country Park is a green flag award-winning park and a local nature reserve.

North Tyneside's towns are steeped in history and distinct in character. Whitley Bay is a seaside town popular with generations of visitors. Tynemouth is a picturesque village with the Georgian style Front Street at it's heart. Nestling in between is the small fishing village of Cullercoats with its idyllic bay. North Shields, a town founded on the fishing industry, is situated on the north bank of the Tyne, as is Wallsend, so named as it marks the eastern end of Hadrian's Wall.

North Tyneside has an annual events programme that attracts visitors from far and wide. The North Tyneside 10K Road Race on Easter Sunday sees 2,000 runners take part in one of the most scenic races in the country from North Shields, along the Fish Quay and coastline ending close to St Mary's Island. The Mouth of the Tyne Festival in the summer is a celebration of world music and performing arts in Tynemouth village with live music in the grounds of Tynemouth Priory & Castle. Northumberland Square in North Shields is transformed into a winter wonderland as it hosts the Victorian Christmas Market. There is plenty more to see and do all year round in North Tyneside including a kite festival and a fireworks display.

A perfect location in North East England to stay and explore the region, North Tyneside offers accommodation ranging from chain hotels to family run guest houses and self catering at the seaside to farm cottages. The Northumberland coast with its castles, the open and rugged countryside in Northumberland National Park, Hadrian's Wall, the vibrant city of NewcastleGateshead and the historic city of Durham are all within a short drive.
