Business & Regeneration ...

Renaissance team

Longbenton'The Renaissance Team is responsible for the co-ordination and management of physical regeneration projects which contribute towards providing a high quality environment to live, work and visit and a supply of modern premises to encourage business to locate and grow within North Tyneside.

Working with partners we are facilitating the regeneration of key areas of the Borough that have been affected by decline, particularly in the riverside, coastal and town centre areas.

Current initiatives include North Shields Town Centre, North Shields Fish Quay, Wallsend Town Centre and Riverside, East Howdon, Spanish City Island/Whitley Bay Seafront, Longbenton Estate and Battle Hill Estate.

Detailed information and relevant links for these initiatives are included within the 'Find out more' pages to the right.

Area regeneration officers who also form part of the Renaissance Team, are responsible for developing and further identifying local priorities and facilitating the shaping of government policy/initiatives to address the needs of local communities.

The Team has a lead role in driving forward the Council’s ‘area approach’ to improving services and the quality of life in the borough. Bi-monthly meetings are held with area regeneration officers and officers from housing and environment to; discuss issues emanating from area forums, identify gaps in services/review existing services and to facilitate a co-ordinated response to issues arising. Where appropriate, there will be liaison with other directorates and there will also be input from external agencies such as fire, health and police services.
