Unitary Development Plan
The North Tyneside Unitary Development Plan is the statutory development plan for the borough and was adopted in March 2002. The plan comprises of two sections, a written text and a proposals map (with inset maps).
The Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 saved policies set out in the Unitary Development Plan for three years, until the 27th September 2007. The Secretary of State recently invited North Tyneside Council to recommend which UDP policies should be saved beyond September 2007 and this has now been the subject of a formal direction. This direction is set out below in the letter dated 31st August from Government Office for the North East. Saved policies will continue to be used in determining planning applications and guiding development in North Tyneside.
