Appealing against a decision

Building at Fish QuayIf an applicant is not satisfied with the decision made by an authority, whether the application was determined through delegated powers or by planning committee, they can appeal to the planning inspectorate.

The Planning Inspectorate is the independent regulatory body of the planning system, they will appoint an inspector to adjudicate whether the appellant has a valid planning reason for appeal, and likewise they will determine whether the Planning Authority concerned refused the application on valid planning considerations. Appeals can take the form of written representations, hearings and public enquiries.
