Crime & Disorder Reduction and Misuse of Drugs Partnership
Chaired by Councillor Eddie Darke, North Tyneside Council
Partnerships were first developed to reduce crime and disorder in North Tyneside in the mid 1980s.
The Government recognised that reducing crime and disorder was not the sole responsibility of the police, therefore, The Crime and Disorder Act 1998 (as amended) placed a joint duty on the Police, Council, Fire & Rescue Service, Primary Care Trust and Police Authority (known as 'Responsible Authorities') to produce a plan for their area that shows how they intend to work together to reduce crime, disorder and misuse of drugs.
North Tyneside Crime & Disorder Reduction and Misuse of Drugs Partnership have developed the Community Safety Plan 2008-2011.
Through the completion of a Strategic Assessment that analysed crime, disorder and misuse of drugs in the borough along with what our local communities have told us, the partnership has identified priorities for the plan. Consultation on these priorities and the aims of the Partnership has been carried out with Residents, Council Members, North Tyneside Strategic Partnership and Senior Officers of the Local Authority.
Priorities for the Plan
- Anti Social Behaviour - including criminal damage, anti social fires, youth related and alcohol related incidents
- Violent Crime - including domestic violence, alcohol related violence and providing support for victims and witnesses
- Volume Crime - including burglary, vehicle crime and targeting prolific offenders (particularly drug-misusing offenders)
The vision of the partnership has always been to make North Tyneside one of the safest places to be in the Country.
Our new three-year plan builds on our previous successes and sets new, challenging targets for the Crime & Disorder Reduction and Misuse of Drugs Partnership.
