Local Businesses & Industry
This sector is represented by the North East Chamber of Commerce (NECC) - North Tyneside Committee and the Whitley Bay Chamber of Trade.
The North East Chamber of Commerce is a support and lobbying body, which works closely with all local authorities across the north east. It also engages with central government at a senior level. It is represented on most, if not all, partnership boards. The Whitley Bay Chamber of Trade is more locally based, serving the interests of businesses in the Whitley Bay area.
Both organisations see their primary role as consultative, but also as a catalyst in implementing strategy (using the skills and methods applied in the private sector).
North Tyneside Committee Objectives:
- Unite the North Tyneside business community to ensure effective business representation of the section's interests
- Engage with the local authority to work for business friendly policies
- Promote best practice to industry and commerce in North Tyneside
NECC offers a range of support services to help small companies
- Find more business - help raise member profile
- Better business - helping members run better and more cost effective businesses
- Better conditions for business - helping create the right environment for business to thrive.
The chamber can provide the correct environment for businesses to develop via networking, publications and use of databases designed to help businesses maximise their sales potential. The Chamber can help reduce business costs by training staff, giving access to many discounted services and provide advice, information and protection in many areas such as business law, health and safety and general business subjects.
The local Area Managers and the Policy section of the Chamber work with government agencies and others to represent the views of members and the policy of the Chamber locally, nationally and internationally.
