Learning providers
Tyne Metropolitan College is the result of the joining of North Tyneside and Tynemouth Colleges on 1 March 2005 after years of cooperation and partnership working.
The Learning and Skills Council and the Department for Education and Skills described the amalgamation process as 'exemplary' indicating that they would like to use it as a 'model of good practice in the future'. There has been universal support from stakeholders across the region for the creation of a single voice for further education in the borough.
Combining the strengths and unique qualities of the previous colleges created an organisation which is ambitious for the success of its community and beyond.
Operating from three main sites - the Coast Road Campus, Academy Campus and Riverside Campus, there are four specialist curriculum centres which are promoting and delivering broad learner pathways: the Centre for Business and Technology, the Centre for Creative and Leisure Studies, the Centre for Professional Care and Education and the Sixth Form Academy.
The experience for learners will encompass a comprehensive enrichment programme and a celebration of diversity. Learners will recognise a personal approach where the indivdiual learner is valued above all other priorities.
The Learning and Skills Council Tyne and Wear was launched in April 2001, taking over the roles of the former Training and Enterprise Council and the Further Education Funding Council. It is part of a national organisation operating through 47 local offices.
