Draft community cohesion strategy
Community Cohesion is about all communities living peacefully and harmoniously with each other. This draft strategy tries to deal with the known key challenges to community cohesion in North Tyneside as identified from residents’ surveys, consultation with groups of residents and discussions with members of North Tyneside Strategic Partnership (including North Tyneside Council, North Tyneside Primary Care Trust, Northumbria Police, Jobcentre plus, the Voluntary Organisations Development Agency and the Community Network).
The key challenges that have been identified are:
- Encouraging all residents of North Tyneside to recognise their responsibilities as individuals to members of the wider community in which they live.
- Stopping all forms of harassment and bullying whether they are related to race, homophobia, disability, age or any other issue that causes individuals to be vulnerable within the Borough.
- Building community cohesion between people living in different parts of the borough and between people with different sexual orientations, people from different ethnic backgrounds etc.
- Helping young people and older people to have better relationships with each other.
- Helping minority ethnic residents to integrate with the wider community.
- Ensuring that all residents in North Tyneside understand how to access public and voluntary sector services available to them.
- Keeping residents and people who plan and provide services informed about the changing communities of the borough so that services can best meet residents’ needs.
