Introduction

The Council is made up of 60 members (otherwise called councillors). In addition, the elected mayor is a member of the Council.

The full Council is a formal meeting of all Councillors and the Elected Mayor. The full Council is required by law to take certain important decisions including setting the Council's budget and Council tax, and approving a number of key plans and strategies.

The Chairman will preside over meetings of the Council and in doing so will seek to ensure that the business of Council meetings is transacted efficiently and with due regard to the rights of councillors, officers and the interests of the community.

The Cabinet is the Council's "Executive" decision-making body and is at the heart of the day to day decision-making process.

For details of the Council's scrutiny, standards, regulatory and all other committees, please refer to the full Council constitution.

Minutes, agendas and reports from meetings of these committees are published within this section.
