The Customer Accounts Team collect all sundry debt owed to North Tyneside Council, efficiently and effectively within Council policy and timescales.

As well as dealing with external queries they assist and advise other Council departments, system users and promote efficiency.

  • Winners of Institute of Credit Management award 2007 for Performance Improvement.
  • Each year Council departments raise more than £40 million, which represents in excess of 95,000 invoices sent to various people.
  • We collect in excess of 50,000 payments annually via Direct Debit.
  • We continue to promote and increase Direct Debit take up.

We have seven staff carrying out various roles such as:

  • dealing with various customer enquiries
  • inputting/reversing Direct Debit instructions
  • managing the Mortgagte Portfolio
  • monitoring and creating payment arrangements
  • co-ordinating and initiating commercial rent recovery
  • debt advice
  • ensuring customer records are maintained efficiently and securely
  • producing/monitoring various financial reports
  • referring and attending cases in County Court
  • referral to and liasing with outside debt agencies
  • collection of large value and school invoices
  • processing refunds
  • all aspects of recovery letters.

Information provided may be recorded on computer, but will be treated as confidential and processed by the Council under the requirements of the Data Protection Act. The Council may use information for any other purpose for the effective administration of official business.
