Disposable nappies make up 2-3% of household waste. On average a child will use up to 6500 nappies until it is potty trained. Each soiled nappy weighs in between 200 to 300 grams. In North Tyneside there are on average nearly 2000 births each year, this means over 5000 tonnes of disposable nappy waste are produced each year.
There are alternatives to disposables! REAL nappies!
To encourage reusable nappy use North Tyneside Council is currently offering £30 cash back to parents who are residents of North Tyneside and who choose to use reusable nappies *
