Budding poets have been honoured for their writing skills in a competition organised by North Tyneside Council.
The 2010 Killingworth Poetry Slam, sponsored by North Tyneside Education Action Zone, was held at George Stephenson High School and judged youngsters on creativity, performance skills and audience reaction.
Children from Year Five and Six made up 14 teams representing Bailey Green Primary, Moor Edge Community Primary, Shiremoor Primary and Westmoor Primary.
The overall winners were the Cheeky Chinchillas, a team made up of Year Five pupils from Shiremoor Primary School.
Every competitor had previously participated in workshops led by local poet Jeff Price, who helped the children prepare their poems and performances.
He said: "I was so impressed with the quality of the performances, which were even better than last year".
Ian Wilkinson, headteacher at George Stephenson High School was one of the judges.
He said: "This was one of the most enjoyable afternoons I have had as a headteacher. The children performed brilliantly".
