The Rising Sun Country Park has done it again!
For the sixth year in a row, the 400-acre green oasis has been awarded the prestigious Green Flag, an award recognising the best parks in the country.
Located off Whitley Road, Benton, the Rising Sun is run by North Tyneside Council in partnership with the Rising Sun Farm Trust.
As well as its organic farm, nature reserve, countryside centre, woodlands and extensive grassland areas, this year has seen a host of new features including:
- a water feature resembling a natural river at the main centre
- a new overflow car park
- a refurbished dipping pond for nature activities
Meanwhile the Rising Sun Farm Trust is set to introduce a new local food house for people to help grow organic food
Cllr Glynis Barrie, cabinet member for Community Services, said: "It's great news that the park been awarded the Green Flag for the sixth consecutive year. The honour is certainly well deserved.
"The Rising Sun continues to go from strength to strength, which is evident from the brand new features that have been introduced over the pas year."
Margaret Hall, chair of the Rising Sun Farm Trust, said: "Once again the Rising Sun Farm was able to join in partnership with the country park and get awarded the Green Flag.
"The farmer, day centre and volunteers all contribute to the farm's effort throughout the year, to make the park a wonderful experience for all ages.
"To have this formally recognised by the award of the Green Flag is a magnificent achievement."
The Green Flag award is run by Keep Britain Tidy, GreenSpace and BTCV.
