Panama Skate Park

In July 2008 a new skate park was officially opened at Panama Dip on Whitley Bay Links.

The skate park is a direct result of pressure brought by young people who put forward a strong case for the inclusion of additional facilities specifically for them in the regeneration plans for Whitley Bay.

Funded by North Tyneside Council and One North East, its design has taken into account its prominent position on the coast, its impact upon the vast green space of the Links and its relationship to the Promenade.

North Tyneside Council worked extensively with young people in the town to help design the skate park through an inclusive approach and this has resulted in a successful end product that constantly receives very positive feedback. In 2009 the Panama skate park won a "Highly Commended" at the prestigious Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors Renaissance Awards.

The skate park forms part of the regeneration of Whitley Bay seafront, which includes the restoration of the iconic Spanish City, the refurbishment of the former Leisure Pool and Playhouse and award winning play site at nearby Whitley Park.
