North Tyneside Council is aiming to show physics is not boring with an explosive show for National Science Week.

On Saturday 13 March, from 11am at Wallsend Library on Ferndale Avenue, the public are invited to an event teaching youngsters and adults the fun of science.

Leading the show is Rick Turton, also known as Professor Brainstorm.

The former university lecturer is determined to prove physics can be exciting and entertaining, and is thrilled to be performing in the borough.

He said: "I love trying to make science appeal to not only children, but people of all ages.

"Schools are the backbone of learning, but I think science isn't always made as inspiring as it could be.

"It's easy to get bored when teachers simply stand in front of a board and just write notes.

"If we can get youngsters to do fun experiments and learn through a hands on experience, it's amazing what they remember."

Having gained a PhD in physics, as well as teaching science at universities for around 10 years, he now tours schools demonstrating the entertainment of science thanks to laughing chickens, liquid nitrogen, and dancing cereal.

He said: "In the show I demonstrate a number of things using unusual methods, such as sound being a vibration by making Rice Krispies dance.

"As well as being fun, it certainly has a real impact on the audience."
