Census returns
Census returns are taken every ten years and are released after 100 years. Returns for 1841 to 1911 are currently in the public domain, available for searching through on-line services such as www.findmypast.com; they are also available on microfilm or microfiche in larger libraries and family history centres. Increasingly, they are becoming available on CD for purchase from specialist companies who advertise in family history magazines.
